Meet Jeff

Jeff Axelbank, Psy.D. was trained as a clinical psychologist at the Rutgers University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology, and he has specialized in group therapy and treating people with chronic pain and other enduring neuroplastic symptoms. While he is a licensed psychologist in New Jersey, he has created a separate Health Coaching practice, Axelbank Coaching, to find new ways to help people. He draws on his own experiences having recovered from chronic pain, as well as the latest research in evidence-based methods such as Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), Emotional Awareness and Expression Therapy (EAET), Psychophysiologic Symptom Relief Therapy (PSRT), and Intensive Short-term Dynamic Therapy (ISTDP).

In addition to his clinical training and experience, Jeff’s undergraduate degree is in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, and he worked for several years as an engineer. He also consults to organizations to help with strategic planning, conflict resolution, executive coaching, and team development. For this work, he was named Psychologist of the Year in 2011 by the New Jersey Psychological Association (NJPA). In addition, he was awarded the prestigious Peterson Prize in 2013 by the Rutgers University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology for “outstanding contributions to professional psychology.”

In his personal life, Jeff is an avid skier, bicyclist, and swimmer, and plays guitar in a rock cover band. He is married and has two grown children.
